You can make a player up their work-rate with good man-management (Joe Cole, for example).
However, you can't teach a player with limited footballing ability but a good "engine" how to play football. It has to be there naturally.
If you buy someone with raw talent, and then get that player working hard for the team, you have sculpted a good player.
