I agree with this. There are those that are seriously depressed but

There are also plenty (mainly celebrities) who behave like a**eholes and I feel maybe use depression or alcoholism or some other form of addiction to justify their actions.

Virtually any celebrity who does something wrong checks themselves into a clinic for depression or alcoholism or sex addiction and most of the time they seem to avoid the consequences of their actions in a way that many "normal" people do not. Indeed in many cases they are hailed as brave or "heroes" for coming out and saying they are depressed which, for people who clearly thrive on public attention and hero worship is a double edged sword in my view.

Clearly, for a guy to be chucking himself in front of a lorry then things have reached a low point and he's not thinking rationally but i also took Little's comments to mean that Carlisle had done several bad things over a number of years and had perhaps never taken real responsibility for them because he had always blamed depression or alcoholism. It may of course be that the guilt and self loathing flowing from that behaviour is now actually a cause of that depression.
