It's not a hair-brained idea that the Greens suddenly came up with. Indeed, there are some prominent economists and American politicians who advocate for it.

FYI I'm not a Green, but it frustrates me when people simply accuse politicians with new ideas of being loons instead of summoning the mental effort to engage in sensible debate.
