Is left midfield his best position? Or is he left of a front three?

I really don't know where he plays or what the expectations of him are. Which is really my point. I have no idea of the system but I'm pretty sure Kyle Lafferty is not primarily a left sided midfielder. To my uneducated eye, him and Jerome should probably be competing for the same spot in whatever formation.
