FAO Duck and reference McGrandles

Can anyone explain to me why a player who appears on the squad list as a central midfielder doesn't end up being selected when we don't have any other player experienced at operating in that position?
Agree with Duck regarding his omission and genuinely can't understand the logic behind him sitting on the bench watching that debacle.
