It wasn't a great choice, but I don't think it would have been so bad

if he would have had other team-mates closer to him. If, for example, we played a 4-5-1 with Bennett and Hoolahan instead of Hooper and Lafferty, he wouldn't have had so much ground to cover and would have had a lot more short passing options when he did get the ball.

Even though he struggled with the basics at times, he was hung out to dry a bit.
