Young kid, seen as having bags of potential and a likely sell on fee that makes someone a profit down the line if he does what he'd expected to do in the game.
'Expected' being the operative word.
?2 Million down, a further 'x' if he does that, 'y' if he achieves this, 'z' if he plays internationally, more still after a certain number of games etc etc.
If Ippo got ?10 Million for him it might be staggered over three, four, maybe five years. or they might get the initial ?2 Million or whatever-and thats that.
Both clubs take a gamble as he is young and unproven-the buying club might potentially sign a dud for ?2 Million or Ipswich might sell a gem for "only" ?2 Million-the possible ?10 Million suits both clubs but only if it works out.
Whereas if we were to sell Redmond for ?8 Million or whatever, we'd pretty much get that amount for him, end of-few, if any conditions or add ons as he is more of a known quantity.
