I'm wondering, in a case like this, if a fairly thick person

*thinks* they are innocent even when they are, in fact, guilty of the charge. In that she was considered "too drunk to give consent" - he was probably also drunk, and his recollection may be clouded and he feels he didn't "rape" her in the way he may personally interpret the offence.

Just hypothesising as to his own state of mind / perception.
