because he's been there ten years, and has shown that he can push players who have potential on to the next stage. Having a playing role allows him to have a real close raport with his team, run through walls etc..
We seem to be at a different stage, where we have the players who are possibly the best in this league, who need a manager with experience of promotion / success at this level, to make the right decisions during a game that gives them that edge.
If we were still in League 1, I'd not have anything against this appointment. To me it just feels like we've given up on promtion and are going for the long term plan.
I hope I'm wrong and he turns out to be Lambert mark 2.
His Barnsley team mates think it's going to be a too bigger job for him, and can't see him still being in place come the end of the season....
