The fact that he's someone 'no-one has ever heard of' means he's not just an 'off the shelf' easy option and suggests we've actually done a fair bit of scouting of him ourselves and discovered/heard really good things. Otherwise how would we have arrived at him as a candidate.
As an unknown he would need to have more about him to make an impression than a more familiar figure would.
