different as we are an agency who get outsourced production from several of the big london agencies. So we give our associates a brief and a number of hours and they get paid for those hours. Any additional work is costed and allocated in the same way so the associates always get paid, and promptly.
When I worked as an associate for them I used to get paid two hours after I put in my invoice!
But yes Freelancing can be a pain (mainly due to clients) - the trick I used to find was to absolutely nail down the brief at the start - no grey areas. A lot more work at the beginning of the job but pays off over time.
