Lots of football managers are chancers winging it...

and the reason why they often get jobs is because they were a good player... but good players don't necessary make good managers, but clubs feel under pressure from fans to give the jobs to a top name. Boards also get an ego boost hob nobbing with them to their mates and sponsors.
