The broad brushstrokes are all pretty similar.

But the details often differ. The same events may occur in both book and telly, but with subtle differences to the characters involved. The only concrete examples I can think of are mondo spoilerific though, so I won't post them.

The main difference is that there are about a million more characters in the book than there are in the telly. Just to make it all fit they've necessarily had to condense some of the story and juggle about with which characters were involved where.
