To me its pretty clear that McNally and co wanted to save face as if they sacked him it basically tantamount t them admitting they got it horribly wrong again. McNally's ego is far too big to admit he got it wrong so they have come up with a damage limitation plan. ie. offer Neil a job back in the academy in exchange for saying he has resigned rather than them sacking him.
I have no faith in them getting the next appointment correct. I'm sure we will scour Europe again only to appoint Phelan.
I think we want a young hungry manager with a bit of attitude and Tim Sherwood fits that bill for me. Can't see it happening though as McNally's ego could not handle Sherwood's ego.
