I think in a way HE has been the victim of classic fake outrage where people jump on a publicity media bandwagon.
They dare not say in public that they think he has served his time for the crime. Even if they think it and believe it.

They don't want to be seen sympathizing with a rapist.

Isn't the criminal justice system about punishment and rehabilitation.
