I thought he signed on only a two-and-a-half year deal? which seemed a bit dodgy to me. but maybe I got it wrong and it was three-and-a-half years.

re johnson - you shouldn't use that transfer fee as any kind of benchmark. that was always a ridiculous fee - I think it was Abramovich's first signing, wasn't it? I assume it was just his way of signalling that he had basically unlimited cash and he could get whoever he wanted.
