Because Dan Brown claims that (some of) it is true! Eg. he claims that the Priory of Sion is an ancient organisation (& that Da Vinci was it's head). It isn't: it was invented by a French nutter called Planchard (I think) in the 50s. Proved as a hoax in a French court. Along with the papers that I forget the name of.
