'Perhaps we should be apologising?'

Interesting review. I too am a massive fan, and this is the 4th show I've seen since the summer. All of which have been heavily based around IFWWW. The crowd were very subdued, and Ben rightly or wrongly took this as apathy towards the new material. He started to play the opening few bars of 'the fear' and when there was still no real energy from the crowd, he just stormed off. That was what caused the delay. Only India inciting us to clap got him back on! I was there at the barrier, and I'm pretty sure he said "you don't want us to leave here thinking you're a bunch of c**ts". Also the request for what we wanted to hear came much later in the show, and was a litmus test by Ben. He never intended to play what we wanted. It's his music, he should get to play what he feels good about playing. I also met him afterwards, and he explained "it's boring playing to a crowd that don't give you anything back". So perhaps we should be the ones making an apology?
