The team that looked pretty good in the first few games of the season, with Grabban leading the line alone, with Wes behind him and Lafferty and Redmond wide looks light years ahead of our current sloggy shape in terms of passing, pace and movement.
I get the feeling Adams liked this formation/lineup but Jeromes run of form has forced him to tinker (Wes left wing, Grabban out wide, Hooper out wide I think I saw in one game etc)
Grabban looked better as a lone forward because 10 others are doing all the graft to support him. In a pair with Jerome his s**t footballing ability is exposed. But on his own, his threat of pace pushed the oppo backline deep and made space for the centre mids and Wes to zip it around.
In this current formation, the opponents don't really need to do anything mad other than keep a back line strung out, mark Jerome with a tall sod, and keep 4 mids shuttling down space ahead of their defence, as we haves eriouslys lumpen movement. Predictable moves from Redmond, telegraphed overlapping from the fullbacks, and a tendancy for everyone to get frustrated with 10 mins of possession and heave forward gung-ho for their goal, leaving us to get shredded on the counter.
The counter that led to the Brighton pen on Saturday was a joke. They just passed it slowly between their centrebacks and defensive mid. Getting a breather. The fullback made a little run, simple forward pass to the striker. Bang! Our defence wasn't concentrating and Ruddy always goes the wrong way.
Personally, this is the 3rd game now with Bradley Johnson as a nominal left winger. Thats surely a straight up sacking offence.
