have done it again, haven't they?
By offering the manager's position to a highly-respected ex-player with no real experience they have succeeded in spoiling that person's relationship with the fans and damaging their association with the club. First Gunn, now Adams.
In both cases I can understand why they took the job. Both men love the club and misguidedly believed they could do it. You might say 'Who wouldn't?'
Make no mistake the blame lies squarely with the amateurs on our Board. To do it once was dreadful but to do it twice is unimaginable folly.
It is just so horribly typical of the decision making under the current regime. When we played hardball with Colchester and got Lambert I thought the club had moved on. Unfortunately holding on to 'nice guy' Hughton and subsequent events have shown that it was a false dawn.
And for the same reason I am hopeful rather than confident about Phelan. Good assistants rarely make good No 1s (I know there are exceptions) and if he were that highly thought of why has he taken so long to get another job.
The Board seem obsessed with appointing former players (Gunn, Adams, Holt, Phelan) when what is really needed is a completely alternative approach.
