Answer to earlier question re. waht is a kop...

it comes from the name "spion kop" which was in south africa i believe, i think from world war 1. it was a big hill, spion kop meaning "look out post".

it was then followed onto large standing areas at football grounds, liverpool being one of the first main ones, as it meant a large bank of standing area.
