Just think the motives are different enough to not be comparable in this case

Can't imagine Elton, Curtis and co sat down and thought "Let's do WW1 this series, will really help with the production company's profits".

As WEC says some great art has come from advertising and it's a medium to show good creative and give artists a platform. Personally, just not a fan of using certain subjects/people/art to hawk products.
