He's a funny onion in that regard, actually. He's very intelligent

but also f**king thick as mince.

I dunno. Intelligence, without education? Most intelligent people who don't receive an education tend to have an amount of autodidacticism, my old man is a great example of this: punted out of school at age 12/13 in the mid 40s able to read, but barely able to write (and with the most hilariously awful spelling imaginable), but an incredibly bright intellect - he spent the rest of his life teaching himself stuff.

Perhaps David James hasn't got that drive to intellectual self-improvement, and if he didnt pay attention in school, or didn't have the time to, it's left him disadvantaged.
