You do if you don't think he's doing a good job. I said this last season

Any decision whether to sack or retain the manager should not be based on league position or indeed how many point we may be behind any other team in the league but should be based on whether the board believe that the manager is making the right decisions and getting the best out of the resources at his disposal and the team is playing at (or close to) the level they should be.

This to me feels like a case where a manager could be removed and replaced despite us being 7th in the league and 4 points off the top IF someone experienced and who the board thinks would do a better job is available to step in. Its not that dissimilar to the Southampton under Adkins situation.

A factor which also should not be overlooked is keeping/attracting players in January if we fall further behind and it does not look like we will get promoted. If we are top two and looking a strong bet to go up then it may be relatively easy to persuade the likes of Redmond that they are better off with us than joining the likes of Crystal Palace. If we are 8th or 9th and not looking like serious top 2 contenders then perhaps not so easy.
