In my view the Martin situation all flows from

Adams lack of credibility when he first got the job. He needed the senior players onside quickly, especially with the Bassong situation. It is noteworthy that Martin was the first senior player to come our and back Adams after he got the job, presumably after he'd been promised he could play CB.
