I know not whether he is innocent or guilty but I do share the concerns about whether there was actually ever enough evidence in this case to secure a safe conviction in the circumstances. I don't see anything wrong with discussing that.
Personally if there is not evidence of spiking/doping I have some difficulty seeing how anyone can be convicted of such a serious offence when it is acknowledged that the victim was conscious and able to speak and she herself cannot remember anything at all about what happened. He may well be guilty but how the hell can anyone prove it in those circumstances?
I sometimes get memory loss when wasted and have sometimes been to several bars/clubs and had long conversations with people without remembering any of it. When I've told people this the next day their reaction has tended to be that yes I was drunk but was still making sense.
