Enlighten me to the delights of the scotch egg then?

I have had different ones from different shops and they have all been pretty much the same.

I'm assuming there must be differences between them, as indeed there is between a bog standard supermarket pork pie and a homemade hand-raised one.

I can't recall seeing homemade scotch eggs in cafe's or bakers, or butchers etc?
