... conspiracy, it's a work of fiction based around a conspiracy that the author has invented. Massive conspiracy though: takes in the fall of the Roman Empire, the conversion of Rome to Christianity, the Cathar Heresy, Knights Templars and the Masons.

Seriously though: read his two previous books first: THe Straw Men and another the name of which escapes me.

He's also written a bnch of stuff that gets labeled Sci-Fi under the name Michael Marshall Smith - that's all f**king great too: one of my favourite authors.
