antii virus will miss a lot of malware and adware... you need to

install and run Malwarebytes;
install and run Adaware.

These two together with an anti virus such as AVG will do. Though note that the free versions of Malwarebypes and Adaware do not monitor in real time. You need to run a scan manually once a week or so.

Id also recommend installing Advanced System Care from iObit. Free version again and manually run it once installed and then once a week. Amazing program that does so much to help maintain your pc.
