Shield is good but it takes a couple of seasons to kick in...

...and it's not as beautifully crafted as Breaking Bad by a long way.

I assume you've watched The Wire. If not, buy it now. Even with its relatively weak last season it's the best thing I've ever seen - complex, multi-layered plots; three-dimensional characters who are properly fleshed out; I could go on. You need to give it a few episodes - it's paced differently from most US TV.

I loved the West Wing and the Newsroom but that's just me; also Homeland, House of Cards etc.
