It is. I've had good ones from ropey dealers and terrible ones from good dealers

The difference though, is if something does go wrong reasonably soon after purchase is how helpful they are in sorting it out.

More recently I've leased via my employer's car scheme. If that's an option for you, it's quite good. Monthly payments are a bit of a pain, but it's no surprises motoring.
