Why would it be down to you?

What if 'england' voted to cut scotlands tie's and they vote no?
We force them out against their will?
What would have happened had we voted to keep them in and they vote to go? We force them to stay?

Even if we all voted into the same pot it would have been unworkable.
Ultimately it was their call not ours.
