I don't doubt there's a methodology behind it, it's just not very representative

I suppose the teams around them may have dropped points against weaker sides, but the overall effect of gaining so many places for beating a team of plumbers with a last minute goal when you have Real Madrid's best player on the pitch is mind-boggling.
