Agree, from a selfish pov I wouldn't vote Yes (if I had a vote). As for a heightened sense

of Englishness, what about Wales? It's very unlikely to survive as an independent nation, but have a valid national identity which would be invigorated by a Scottish Yes. I'm sure that would lead to greater resentment on both sides. Maybe the answer is a federation, where things like currency, defence, foreign affairs and some taxation levels are controlled at a UK level, but the rest is devolved.

Basically, England needs to get its own house in order - Germany shows that, even if you're shackled to basket cases you remain strong. That way, if the pound suffers because Wales and/or Scotland mess up, England's exports benefit.
