I kind of understand what you are saying, I feel the same with city

if we go into a game as favourites we are always more likely to make an arse of ourselves than the other team but the performance appears so much better when we are underdogs, obviously this isn't a scientific rule but holds true in a number of cases.

Then again it may just be me projecting my expectations of the result on to the team
