Him thinking it was an intruder gets him off scott free of any intent to murder Reeva, which for some reason was the prosecution's theory. Win for Oscar.
I think it will have been considered in the 'was it reasonable to fire indiscriminently at the door' question, in the sense that you have to consider whether it's reasonable to just shoot intruders. I think it's been considered but the judge has discounted it partly on the basis that he had security available who he didn't call. Had he been alone without back-up, the inference is that if it was an intruder it may have been reasonable to fire at the door.
