A Scot said to me the other day that the easy and instant way to guarantee a no vote

...would be for the FA to make a statement that in the event of a no, they would give serious consideration to Rangers and Celtic joing the premier league. (And that in the event of a yes, obviously this could never happen.)

R & C fans would vote no because they want to join the prem. Fans of all other clubs would vote no because of how much they'd love to see the Old Firm go.

And his point was that there are a lot more footie fans in Scotland than there are people who are really interested in questions of independence and constitutional affairs.

Over to you Mr Scudamore (if he still has that job).
