There are a lot of celebrity chefs though, most of whom have regular shows doing their thing. Watching somebody cook something good that I can perhaps replicate is quite satisfying viewing.
My principle grouse with bake-off is that it's yet more rating / judging nonsense. It's cooking mixed with Big Brother and X Factor. Surveys and "rate my performance" form such a part of today's target culture and the data derived therefrom causes people so much stress that I don't like to see it becoming entertainment.
I mean, what could be next? We watch as a call centre employee loses her job because she hasn't satisfied enough callers this week and the judges were mystery callers? Fly-on-the-wall Ofsted where we see teachers having a breakdown because one pupil hasn't reached his target and shown enough progress in 25 minutes?
