I just find the entire reality/lifestyle TV genre incredibly dull

Too much British TV focuses on members of the public undertaking anodyne tasks, mostly their day jobs or hobbies, which for me is incredibly boring. I want to watch TV that takes me out of the everyday and transports me to another place or time, or teaches me things I don't know. Bake Off transports me to a tent full of ovens and middle-class people kneading their dough. I might as well sit in front of the window to the local Paul.

All comes down to taste and what people want to get out of the TV-watching experience I guess.
