I expect the news orgs are well aware of the heightened click-potential

(or whatever the TV/print equivalent is) of a beheading in the current climate, given what keeps happening in Iraq/Syria.

So whether one considers that to be on the spectrum of c**tery or not, or just the way media works, that's probably something to do with it.
