What happens if you take penalties away?

I agree he's world class, but after he burst onto the scene, he's just stayed at that same level (Although a bloody good level), while Messi, Ronaldo have improved, I just don't see him running at defences and scaring them like when he played at Everton. Now he mainly stays in the box which I feel is wasting his talent.
