The word 'slated' used in the context of meaning 'to schedule' or 'to designate'

I am seeing it used more and more in this context.

Have I been living in a bubble or something? Until fairly recently (last couple of years) I had never heard it used in this context and now I am seeing it more and more.

Am I a bubble boy, just thick or both, or is this something that has come from our good friends from across the Atlantic.
