I think you nailed it when you said how he isn't remorseful.

I'm not one to suggest that if you commit a crime and get sent to prison that should effectively be the end of all opportunities in your life, I believe prison should be corrective as well as penal, however, if you never face up to what you did then you don't deserve those fresh opportunities.
