Most of the players probably want out after relegation so you need someone to convince them to stay. Maybe Adams can impress them with his coaching but if not he has nothing else to fall back on. None of the players will know him as a player and he has no senior managerial experience.

As you say he has very little experience around him either. Holt 's had a year as manager but not at a comparable level.
