The 'worthy outers' think Saturday was a decent performance, of the type we should have started seeing in the middle of august not the middle of December. We also feel that while it was a good win, and three important points it was against a terrible Southampton side in complete disarray and Boxing Day will be a real test.
We also feel that Nigel had the nucleus of an excellent championship squad at the start of the season and, more significantly, the resources and profile to add some real quality to round it out. On the evidence so far he has failed to do this (note the three loan signings that played Saturday, and the notable absence of some summer signings). Based on the squad and resources available we also feel that the play-offs is a wholly realistic and acceptable MINIMUM standard for this season, and failure to achieve this will set us back, and mark the season as a failure. A situation that cause serious consideration of the managers position. If a run ensures from this point on the team will enjoy (as it currently does) our full support, and many dissenting voices may be silenced for the good of the club. This will not however change the many and obvious failings of Nigel that we have seen over the past 18 months. To suggest the manager is now above criticism after 2 wins against poor sides is fickle in the extreme.
