I think it's a general thing across the media, based on the inaccessibility of IS held territory.

Plenty of journos can access Gaza (facilitated by Hamas or the IDF, as appropriate) so you can get lots of good quality media soundbites and footage to satisfy the 24hr news cycle.

Northern Iraq, less so. Presumably 'cos your typical IS jihadi is more likely to chop a Western journo's head off than to pose for the camera. Less journos on the ground = less column inches in the papers.

(*which to be fair is probably more evident in the comments sections than the articles themselves)
