When Lambert played it successfully he had Crofts there on the right to help with the holding role. Bennett is an out and out winger - not the right side of a narrow midfield two.
He also had Holt and Martin up front, which is infinitely better than Grabban/Redmond (if Redmond was even playing up front - not sure where he was playing to be honest).
On the subject of Redmond, still can't cross, still can't shoot. I really wanted to keep him, but I have my doubts he will ever really develop an effective end product. If we get a good offer I'd get rid of him and play Murphy as well as whoever we replace Redmond with. At the moment Pilks is a better option than Redmond.
