At some stage during their attempt to avoid the result, one of them sees a newspaper stand and catches a glimpse of part of the headline "ENGLAND F...".

They then agonize about what it said, presuming England lost (fail, flop, falter etc).

Of course, it said FOGGED OUT or FOGGED OFF or words to that effect.
