You can walk to the latter from the former

Might have to carry a 3yo part way but nicer and possibly quicker then getting to tube. Just walk up the road between the science museum and the V+A, cross at the lights, and keep walking nor-by-nor-westish. Or pop to the Serpentine and hire a rowing boat. The playground is ace though and very secure so you can let him/her run off safely once you're inside it.
