I don't think anyone would knowingly set out to emulate Richard Keys. Perhaps it just gradually seeped into common parlance as people started using it ironically to take the piss out of Keys and then somewhere down the line someone misinterpreted and thought it was a valid phrase.

Or maybe Keys was already picking up on a phrase that had already gathered momentum.

The English language. Bloody hell.
